Lazy weekend

Saturday, and feeling rather lethargic, so I settled down for a few hours with my book. I then went for lunch, wrote in my journal, read the Bamgkok Post and did the crossword. All whilst watching Popeye and Tom & Jerry cartoons that the bar owner had put on for his kid. Tom & Jerry is Timeless!

After a few hours in there I headed into the outer city to the night market. There are perhaps a dozen different types of stall, but there are hundreds of them. There were a few things I considered buying, mainly to send home. In the end I bought nothing.

I was gettin bored of the same, same market and so headed to a bar. I got talking to a group of people at the bar, the old aussie I talked politics (Oz elections, and becoming a Republic), the Brit I talked about why he was out here (drug problem!) and the babyfaced Canadian about Canada.

I headed to my 'local' and had a couple more beers (and a couple of crates of salted popcorn), got a few shots of the bargirls and headed for home.

Sunday, I got up and sat reading again. This book won't last long. I headed down to the Tha Pae gate. There was a market on there and all down a road running through the inner city, I had a stroll through it. This market differed alot from the night market, I think the local tribes people may come down for this one. I wasn't in a buying mood.

I went to a bar for a coke and they had the NRL Grand Final on and the place was full of Aussies. Fair enough it was rugby league, but it made a change from all the football. I got talking to an Aussie who lived in Bangkok and who was up in Chiang Mai to play cricket.

When the match finished (with the side I was rooting for loosing) I walked around the south of the inner city, there wasn't much there so I headed to a bar to update my journal. There was a German at the bar and he asked if I was writing in a secret code. My writings not that bad! But ten he mentioned my writing down the page. It's just how I write.

I headed back to the market, it was heaving with people now. Thais must only shop at night. It was a completely different experience, but I still didn't buy anything.

I hit a bar around the corner from my guesthouse for a final drink, it was empty. I noticed a sign saying they had ManU v Boro on a big screen upstairs so I headed up, it was packed. I watched the match, talking football and taking the piss out of the ManU fans with the rest of them. After watching ManU scrape a draw we all went into the other upstairs room to watch the second half of Chelsea v Liverpool. I didn't see much of it as I got talking to Tina, a girl who was travelling the other way round the world to me. She told me what she'd saw in Laos and Cambodia, I told her about a few of the places I'd seen in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I then escorted her home (not really, she was in the guesthouse next to mine).

Good to hear that Aussies are everywhere!

Don't worry about getting a bit miz - the down days will make you appreciate the good days! Also, don't forget that you're probably a bit knackered so a couple of days reading and chilling out have probably done you good!!!!

And remember that some of us back in sunny England (ahem) are very, very jealous ... !!!

Lee Bhai

Have you checked out Bamboo rafting? I remember I paid about 650 Baht for a days activities like trek, elephants in forest, lunch, waterfall visits and rafting in the rapids (lots of fun!).

Check some of the travel places out - they usually wait until they have 4 or 5 travellers and plan a day of it.

Also - you seen a place to eat called "BaiPorn" yet? No sex there.. unless things have changed! hehe.

Don't worry about downers as you'll pass them in a few more weeks - remember how I felt in my first week in India!

Sending you some cold english weather to put a smile on your face!
