George Michael and the Packers

9/19/04
So, weŽve only been away for a week and already we needed a taste of home. We found an "Irish" pub today that has a satelite and convinced them that they really really wanted to watch the Packers game (the sound was off and we got to listen to quite a selection of George Michael tunes), it was a great taste of home, but as anyone who saw the game knows, it was quite a disappointment.
Regardless of the game, we had a fabulous morning. We got up early and headed into Old Town. We went to a mass at the oldest church in South America, the Cathedral of San Francisco built in 1534 (it took almost 50 years to complete). It remains in beautiful condition. A nun approached me before the mass began and started to ask me something, I nodded my head, but could neither hear nor understand her. She continued speaking and pointed to something in the book having to do with the 2nd reading, I smiled at her and she began thanking me and walked away. I had no idea what IŽd agreed to...I think I agreed to introduce the second reading...oops. Since Jim wouldnŽt let me get up and leave right then, I sat through the beginning of the mass not knowing what to do, when the time came I just looked down at the reading...there was a slight pause, and one of the nuns read my lines...oops!
After leaving the church we did a bit more exploring of old town. We happened upon and International Arts Festival in one of the large plazas. We spent the morning watching a beautiful preformance by a group of actors/musicians from Columbia, on 4 foot high stilts.
WeŽre off to study a bit before we start school tomorrow. See pictures below.
