A month in Australia

Well, I actually have been here just over a month, and have had a great time! I flew into Melbourne and spent about one week there. Highlights of my stay include driving on the Great Ocean Road, and watching an AFL game with a friend I met on the plane ride over from LA. Melbourne was a fun city, but was also a bit chilly and rainy. So, I caught a ride up to Byron Bay with an australian guy named Darren, who was moving up to the byron bay area.

We had a fun 2 day road trip up to Byron, stopping at some tourist attractions which were somewhat off the beaten path. Some of these sights included the "dish" (a really big telescope that played a part in the first man walking on the moon), the huge golden guitar in Tamworth (country music capital of australia), and opp. shops in most of the small towns we drove through. Who needs to see mile after mile of beaches on the coastal route when you can visit such great attractions inland instead?

I really had no idea what my plan was after I arrived in Byron, but as is the case with many people, once there, I decided to stay awhile (2 1/2 weeks to be exact). Laying around on the beach, enjoying warm, sunny weather, learning to surf, visiting local markets with great fresh, organic food, and hanging around with fun people at the hostel were all reasons to stay in byron for a few weeks.

It was finally time to get in gear again and head up to Brisbane. While in Brisbane, I stayed with my friend Linda, who I had met while I was working in Alaska. I had a great time visting her, and also had a chance to meet up with Chris from bootsnall for a few beers. That was also a lot of fun-thanks for meeting up with me Chris!

Then it was off on a 16 hour bus ride to sydney. Really, 16 hours on the bus is never exactly fun, but overall, the trip wasn't too bad. I've taken two seperate 64 hour greyhound rides in the United States before, and after those, no bus ride ever seems that bad.

So, now I am enjoying life in Sydney.... I'll write more about that at a later time. Until then, safe and happy travels everyone!

Kristy: your trip sounds great to far!! learning to surf, etc - awesome!! Also comedy that a 16 hr bus is like no big deal to you.

Very jealous from my perch in the office.

Kristy
Make sure you keep searching for that elusive bungy sheep. Mine is getting lonely and needs a companion!
Watch out for those icy roads - we've been seeing scenes of snow and freezing temperatures in NZ on the TV!! A bit different from Byron and Brisbane!
Take Care
