What's This??

There's a reason for that new travel category for this entry.

I walked into STA-Travel as planned and walked out with a ticket to Sydney for TODAY at 5pm. I am flying into Sydney and out of Melbourne for like $450 roundtrip. I figured I couldn't even beat that from Bangkok so I took it and ran. The reason it is so rushed was I could fly today or fly on Feb 23rd. The choice was pretty obvious. :)

I have had a great time travelling with Kathy and just running off to OZ on my own without my tall Viking buddy will be strange after three weeks of wandering Malaysia and Singapore together. I wish more people out of college would be like her! She had never left the country before and decided to head to Asia and go to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philliphines.

Anyway, I've emailed everyone I know in Australia and have already been invited to go camping at a folk festival by another Kathy, this one from Melbourne.

Woo hoo!!!! Go spur of the moment travelling!!!

YEH! Rock on by the seat of your pants! Y'll be fine, C, you'll be fine. Now we're talkin'! Can't wait to hear what the culture shock is like - whaddya mean everyone speaks English? Huh?

I just saw a special on the Travel Channel about Australia. Here are some highlights:

There is a town in the CENTER where everyone lives underground.. it looked cool...they have a motel.

oh, and there was also something about flying alligator feeding- apparently, they jump quite high to get food.

And there is the largest rock in the world (it is big, red, and even larger underground) where aboriginies worship..

Watch out for the dingoes.. they eat babies ( they spoke about the mother who was jailed for killing her baby because they did not believe that dingoes ate people..they made a movie out of it..)

Did you know that there are aboriginal drawings older than the pyramids?

And they have balloon rides over Syndey....nice way to see the city.

And you must go swimming with dolphins!!!!!!!!!

And my fav...they spoke about the Opal mines....jewels....opals....

I am so jealous..enjoy!

so does that mean that you are coming home right after that?

Vanessa,

No, I just rearranged the order of my travel.

Ant,

I just had a spasm while going grocery shopping, something I haven't done since the UK. I've been IN supermarkets recently getting drinks, but never food I have to make.

Steph,
I will investigate your tips!!! Thanks.

Dave & Kris,

Sorry I bolted out so quickly but it was either yesterday or 2+ weeks from now. Obvious choice. :) I hope we get to meet up again in OZ.

This is why one shouldnt go IT shopping alone:

A few hours after you left.... I went to the Sim Lim center and disaster struck! My Visa jumped right out of my wallet! So now I am the owner of a Fujifilm camera w/ 6x zoom and 3.2 Mpix, 256MB of memory, a battery charger and even a polarizing filter. I can hardly believe it... what have I done?

On the other foot, I am really dreading my flight back to Bangkok later today. And like yourself am really tired of SE Asia, and the more I think about it the more I think I need a change of scenery/continents. I am now actively considering skipping Laos altogether... and maybe to hell w/ the Philippines too. Did someone say something about Tuscany? Oh wait.. that was you! So now the well-laid plans I thought I had hammered out are in upheavel too. And of course, I feel like a complete moron.."oh how terrible, you cant decide which country to go visit. sigh."

In conclusion.... basically, its all your fault. ;)

But seriously, it was great meeting you and thanks for putting up w/ me for 3 weeks. Maybe we'll run into each other stateside... or our yaks will cross paths in the middle of a "Stan".

Enjoy the boeuf in Oz and remember to "Play Safe".

YAR!

-Kathy

Kathy,

We will definately run into each other stateside.

Wow, looks like the specs I gave you on digies seemed to work out well. Nothing super flashy but very very usuable. I knew I should have come with you to Sim Lim!!! I'm jealous of your cam for one major feaure, I bet it's SUPER compact. Well, that and you have a polarizer, which I desparately need. I wish I had bought it in Singapore because now with all these landscapes I'll be shooting, I really need it. I'll have to break down and pay the price here....

As for Laos/Camb/Phillipines, give em a whirl. It's too cold yet to be able to enjoy Tuscany outdoors yet. I do know what you mean though. You'll be out of Bangkok soon. Stay strong my Viking friend!!!

I didn't have any boeuf yet because I was too excited about the avacados at the supermarket and I scarfed one of them. I will try and do boeuf for dinner, though not on the baaarbie :)

Don't worry hun, it's only a kitchen, it won't hurt you ;-) If you need "technical support" though, you know where to find me.

Suddenly I want to make spring rolls...

Posted by: Ant on February 11, 2004 10:12 AM

So much for tech support!! I tried to call you and you didn't answer. :(

Bloody Celtic music... Buckley and I had gone for coffee, and between us telling clergy jokes and the Celtic jam going on, I didn't hear or see the phone go off. Bugger. BTW, it was only 9:15pm my time when you called. Good to hear your voice, even if it was a message!

Tech support shall make this endeavour to its vast customer base of, well, 1, to improve its availability :-)
