Xi'an - T'ai Chi & Warriors

We all raised ourselves from our sleepy pits, to go and join in with T'ai Chi in the square next to the hotel. There were a number of groups of people, a couple of people practicing T'ai Chi sword, and another in a uniform practicing a Fan routine.

There was a third group - the largest, which had just stopped as we arrived, so Victoria went up and asked if we could join in... After about 20secs I walked away... It was T'ai Chi Dance.. A weird and wonderful I thought was only available in England.. but no it is an authentic Chinese waste of time...

Most of the group stuck at it a while longer, but after a while they all decided it wasn't what they expected. Having already said that I used to do T'ai Chi.. I was sort of volunteered to take a class. So I did...

It must have looked strange a group of westeners doing a quite obscure T'ai Chi form, rather badly... I am sure we entertained the locals :-)

After about an hour we had covered some Chi Kung and got through half the form in a 'follow me' style. I really enjoyed it, and everyone was up for doing it every morning of the tour - yeah right.. like that will happen! {Ed. it didn't -ever!}

We headed back to get ready to get a bus out to see the Terracota Warriors. I had read about them, and knew pretty much what to expect.. {see photo's on OFOTO.com} It was good to see plus it wasn't very busy - which helped.
I won't bore you will all the descriptions of the place... Lets just say.. 6000 Warriors.. made from Terracota, buried with the remains of the Qin Emporer, plus chariots and weapons, and all of his concubines and staff - buried alive (nice guy!)....
Only a small amount is on display as they are preserving the colour of the warriors by covering them.. so not quite the 8th wonder of the world that CITS would have you believe - but still worth a visit.

After we got back from the Warriors, we headed down to 'Coffee Street' where there is a unique culture in China, they are doing the whole Coffee thing.. aparantly only in Xi'an.. everywhere else the coffee sucks... Only the very trendy Chinese people go to drink coffee.. so it was an interesting exercise in people watching - whilst abusing the air-con.

Tonight we have another overnight train to Lanzhou then bus to Xiahe..
Next Post - Xiahe...
