Sukhothai

Our first World Heritage Site! Sukhothai is the location of the Sukhothai Historical Park which was an ancient capital of Thailand in the 12th through 14th centuries.

So, we hopped on a bus in Bangkok and seven hours later we were dropped off at a small bus terminal in Sukhothai. It's a fairly small city and was a welcome change from the total noise and heat and chaos of Bangkok. The city is divided into two cities really, Old Sukhothai, where the Heritage Park is, and new Sukhothai, where almost all of the guest houses were as well as the restaurants. We stayed at a really nice place, Lotus Village, which was in the new section of town. The first night we just walked around to the night market to find some dinner and we saw two elephants just walking down the street. They had people with them, but we never found out where they were staying....

The next day we hopped a sangthiew, which is a small truck with a roof and running benches along the back. It was a 1/2 hour ride to the Park. The National Park is fairly big in size, we rented cruiser bikes to get around. The ruins in the park were pretty amazing.

Here is another ruin.

Here is picture of us in the park.

NOTE: We are working on getting bigger photos, but for now, this is what the internet cafes can seem to handle....

hi robin and matt,
glad you've been enjoying sukothai. it was one of the highlights of my thailand trip. certainly a much more leisurely pace than bangkok. i loved watching all the people at market, many of them shopping without getting off their mopeds.

enjoy you travels

Looks very fun! Where exactly are you staying? In hotels or hostels?

Looks so cool. I'm glad you are out of the city. It sounded hot and cramped. How fun, cruiser bikes!!! It's nice to see a picture of you guys even if it's small. Thanks for keeping us posted.

The New York Yankees lost 22-0 at Yankee Stadium last night. It was the worst loss in the storied franchise's 101-year history.

Boston's only 3 1/2 back down from 10
