What we're bringing

We decided to pack light for this trip because no one ever says that they pack more and more each time they go away.

There are a lot of resources out there that tell you what to bring and what to not bring, so we won’t bore you with the nitty gritty list---but here’s a picture of all of it instead!

All of the gear and clothes you see are for both of us, and it fits into two REI brand travel bags with a capacity of about 3,000 cubic inches each. We didn’t weigh everything individually, but estimate that the weight of everything here and the bags is less than 35 pounds. The bags convert to a backpack and can be used as a carry-on. We expect to be supplementing this stuff with a healthy dose of sarongs, t-shirts and other local clothes and sundries.

We’ll let everyone know what we think of our packing list and Vietnamese toothpaste during the months ahead.

Don't forget to bring a lighter! Even if you don't smoke it will probably come in handy as a bartering tool or a light in the darkness. Also, a head lamp and hats (I couldn't tell if they were in your pile) as well as a book of NY times crossword puzzles and/or cards and/or travel scrabble. Don't forget how to use the compass!!!

I recognize those socks! Great choice, you can wear those socks for weeks without them ever stinking. Uh, or so I hear. :)

Do you have a bigger picture of the one linked above? I can hardly see what a lot of the smaller items are.

Also, what type of bag are you using.

Thanks, and have fun on the trip!
