Trip update

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005

Ok, I managed to add a few more days to my trip and am now arriving on the 30th and leaving from Boston on the 16th.

I’ve decided to ‘risk’ the bus and will hopefully live to tell the tale.

Dates are now:

30/02 Seattle
02/05 Portland
04/06 travelling
05 flying via Phoenix (for an hour)
05/07 Detroit
07/10 Chicago
10/11 Washington
12/15 New York
15/16 Boston

Tripping a Plan

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

It should have been simple…

Fly out to PDX from London and fly back to London from PDX a few days later…

But then my enthusiasm for exploration and architecture and stuff kicked in and it’s grown a bit.

  • 30th – Fly London – Seattle – it means I’ll be missing a hockey game, but my lucky shirt won’t – so it should be ok.
  • 1st – Be sleepless in Seattle and get down to Pike place around 4am to catch the city waking up, later just explore – head up the space needle at sunset and then eat and stuff.
  • 2nd – Early breakfast – get early train to Portland – check into hostel – get my bearings and meet up with everybody for dinner and what sounds like a fairly interesting evening.
  • 3rd – Group brunch – stuff around Portland and then the BnA bash.
  • 4th – here’s where it starts to get a bit hazy… either I do a Cinderella and leave the BnA ball before midnight to catch a coach to Detroit – or I hang around for a day and fly out on the 5th.
  • 6th – however I get here – I’m going to the Red wings Vs. Devils hockey game.
  • 7th – Explore Detroit
  • 8th – Get a crazy am bus to Chicago and run around the place like a lunatic.
  • 9th – Still Chicago – still running around like a lunatic – get afternoon train to DC
  • 10th – Washington DC – more maniacal running aound – then evening train to Boston.
  • 11th – Explore Boston then evening train to New York.
  • 12th – The city never sleeps, so I won’t either.
  • 13th – Spend some time with Moma and come home.

If anything I think I ought to drop DC from my trip – I might be able to fly back from Boston instead of New York – that would probably make more sense.

If I do get the coach then I’ll have completed one of my RTW goals – traverse northern USA.

I’m not going to pretend that I’m going to get a handle on any of the cities I’m visiting – but I’m going to have enough time to shoot a few decent photographs and chat with a few people along the way.

I’ll be back later – it’s just fun to try and do it all at once – although it may kill me…
