Last week it snowed briefly in Tokyo on my way to work. I love snow but it doesn’t snow in Tokyo that much any more these days.

January 29th, 2008

The following is a photo montage video of the travels, festivals, and events I experienced in 2007.

I’ve got photos of sumo, ninja, geisha, samurai, medieval Italian towns, German castles, a slew of Japanese festivals, and one good ole dog.

For more info on the photos, check my blog at:

The song is called “Only Once” which I think appropiate for life and traveling. You’ve only got one life – go somewhere and do something!

Street Musicians in Munich – Mozart in Munich

January 25th, 2008

Just to show that not everything I do will be Japanese related as I’ve been to 30 other countries besides Japan.

Here’s a series I’ve been putting together of buskers – street musicians – in Munich. I also plan to do some on street musicians in Tokyo in the future.

This group is playing Mozart’s Ein Kleine Nacht Musik. The subtitles tells of Mozart’s relationship with the city.

Sumo Action set to Heavy Metal

January 25th, 2008

If you thought sumo a sport of slow moving fat guys in thongs engaged in an aggressive shoving match, guess again.

As any follower of Sumo knows, Sumo wrestlers are fast, strong, and agile. They also know how to take a fall real well. And they get tossed around a lot.

The following is a series of falls, tumbles, and throws from several tournaments: Sept ’06, May ’07, July ’07 in Nagoya, and Sept ’07. There’s also scenes from an outdoor exhibition in April ’07.

I went early in the day for the Nagoya Basho and caught some of the junior wrestlers so this vid has wrestlers from the very top to the very bottom of the sumo hierachry.

Seijin-no-Hi: Japan’s Coming of Age Day Kimono Girl Montage Vid

January 25th, 2008

Coming of Age Day in Japan is a day when gaggles of giggling girls hit the street in their gorgeous kimono with the long-sleeves known as furisode.

At age 20, Japanese youth official become adults and can vote, drive, and legally smoke and drink at long last.

The following is a pictorial montage of Seijin-no-Hi from 2006-2008 taken at Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. The shrine holds an archery ritual which is pictured here known as Momote Shiki in honor of the new adults.

The music is by The Sushi Cabaret Club, a band based in Nagoya, Japan:
