This weekend is all about meeting people! I've got speed dating with a couple of friend's and a party to meet a bunch of my friend's single schoolmates.
I don't have the desire-burning, biological clock-ticking, must-have man feeling but I think it might be fun to meet some people/make friends regardless.

Had Sunday dinner at Justin and Theresa's house. Was the first time over there and they have some very nice pictures and looks like they've settled in very well. Team Chiang joined us and Theresa cooked a wonderful caserole. Ange and I brought dessert while Winnie brought a cool grape and broccoli salad thingy.
Lovely night and I didn't even noticed that I missed the Amazing Race 10 season premiere! (obviously that says something)

Ian and I went to the Bob Sinclar DJ set on Friday night and it was pretty good. I didn't realize though, that people didn't show up early for events like this so we got there like half an hour early! After waiting for 9pm and the doors still didn't open, we walked to the nearest Tim's and tried their new Hot Smoothies. We got back to the venue maybe 930 or so and saw that there were a whole 10 people in the lounge... Anyways, that's my bad.
It was a bit odd because everyone in the club screamed YUPPIE and Ian felt a bit outta place because of it. With button down shirts and sweaters overtop and of course, a fauxhawk (like a mohawk but not as extreme) and I think I was the only chinese chick there! Very Eurpoean/Australian.
There was the odd crazy Uni Prof. type and one very drunken Scandinavian entertaining me from my perch above the dancefloor. There was also pot smoking in the corner near where I was dancing on the floor. (Ian danced with me! cool!!) and it seemed no one bothered to inform them that they Edmonton is a non-smoking city and they should have taken it outside. hahah
Anyways, the DJ set was fairly good. Would have liked to have heard him mix in his big hit "Love Generation" though....
Cat Empire will be in Edmonton Oct 20!! Anyone interested?
My brother moved his computer to another room and somehow that made us lose our connection to the internet. He coulsn't reconnect... That left me stranded over the weekend!! aaaahhhh!!!
actually, it wasn't all that bad.. but how about
BRING IT ON!!!!

Shooting Spree in Montreal college kills 1 This one even made it to BBC News
Killed while she was driving down the street with her boyfriend
Man shot and found on Legislature steps
This might make my town/country look bad but I just can't believe these things are happening. I've never thought of Edmonton being unsafe really. Unless you go trawling around the grundy streets at 3am...
Today while I was shopping in Superstore, I was chatting with someone I just ran into when I noticed a man walking by that I thought I knew. I spent the rest of my time gathering my groceries and wondering who he was.
hmmm... Was he a customer at work?.... no... He's from tv.... so he must be a local newscaster.... no, no... so he must be from some kind of show... but what show is filmed in my town??
After gathering all the items and starting to head to the check out aisle, I realize it was Ryan Seacrest.
As I realize this I am suddenly really glad that I didn't actually go up to him and ask if we knew each other like I was thinking of doing when I couldn't place his face.

The other day I was talking to a friend on the phone when all of a sudden I get cut off!! Now, this friend calls me back and is understandably irked because I supposedly hung up on him.
This is not new. For years Telus has always had a tendancy to drop calls from my LAND LINE between 11am and 1pm. It doesn't happen to every call made during those hours but for awhile it was happening almost on a daily basis. Also, when I realize the call has been dropped, I hang up the phone and pick it back up so I can redial and there sometimes is no dial tone. I have to wait sometimes up to half an hour for a dial tone to come back. And yes, I've checked to see that all the other phones in my house are on the hook and that noone was eavesdropping or a phone knocked off the hook or something. So, I've called Telus to find a resolution to this issue.
The Telus party line is:
I have too many phones connected.
Stupidest excuse ever. The peon at the helpdesk can't explain why it only drops calls between 11am and 1pm consistantly and not any other time. I've got 5 phones connected. If their is a max number that should be connected, why do they place so many jacks in the house? This is a large house with 4 bedrooms and a den (that's not counting the basement bedrooms). Don't they think that a house with this many rooms might conceivably have 5 phones and then account for that when installing the lines?

I feel it. Summer's coming to an end. The days are getting shorter. No more staying outside, enjoying the sunshine until 10.30pm...
The other day I was helping Winnie choose potential photographs for hanging in her new house and got inspired by her beautiful flower photos and so today I tried my hand at it with my dad's flowers before they all drop. The flowers aren't as beautiful as a few weeks ago but here a couple of faves.
