March 23, 2005Forgetting to be adventurous...
Really, truly...I've gone soft. I know it's shameful, but it's the honest truth. My plans just fell through and an emergency re-routing was required. It was so frustrating. I got super anxious and hot flashes overtook reason. After having three failed attempts at finding a new place to go for the night (I needed a train that would leave immediately so I could get into a city before midnight, and I needed a hostel to have a bed available--bad combination of needs!), I finally gave up and asked, "How much for a bed to Wien?" Can you believe that? I wanted to go home after only five days of travel! I can't believe it. The straw that broke the camels back was really when I learned that the night train I wanted to take, my third attempt, had no beds but only seats available on a first come first serve basis. And the train is supposed to be full because of Easter travels (and this is a very Catholic country, so all the students in this university town are going home). The adventurous pirate in me felt very much like traveling by cruise ship rather than the Black Pearl. But you, my faithful friends, will be proud to know that in one hour I will be fighting my way onto that train bound for Gdansk. And I will sit-sleep the night away so that I can be a thorough tourist for six hours tomorrow before boarding another train for the next 20 hours to Budapest. Yes, as I said, the adventures return. Be prepared for some addictive emails! :) Comments
