    Away on a whirlwind trip.

Clue: Famous First World War flying ace is a big name in aviation around here.

    Here’s the answer:

    Billy Bishop Regional Airport

And on to Clue Number 2 in the next post.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 Away: Guelph and Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada The drive from Guelph north on Highway 6 always makes me feel like I’m heading up there to make my own clearing in the Queen’s Woods. Nellie McClung was born along this road. There are still two or three of what I take to […]

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Away: Guelph, Ontario, Canada My first trip of the year! Guilt: flying so far for such a short trip. Guilt: leaving home when I really shouldn’t. OK, that’s over with. The in-plane experience was OK, crowded but OK. Usually I’m lucky and get on flights that […]

Sunday, February 27, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada As the city limits expand, there are more opportunities for humans to move into the territory of the native wildlife. A couple of years ago I was driving around to the southwest of town and saw a cougar up close and personal. It was chasing a coyote. […]

  • jill wrote a new blog post: Weather sayings for March   14 years ago · View

Saturday, February 26, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada At the beginning of February, we look for the groundhog to foretell the winter and spring dividing line. If that doesn’t work, we watch the first of March. “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” I actually think that’s it, that’s the whole saying. But, in […]

Cars and cold don’t go together.

Took one in yesterday for servicing. It will take an extra day to fix, so I stayed home today. Nowhere I really needed to go.

It sounds like you had enough monkey business for one day! Entertaining story, Emma, thanks.

Thursday, February 24, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Cold. Have I mentioned that before? But for cold weather, you can put on more clothes and stay inside. When it’s too hot, you can’t get away as easily. The shopping centers and office buildings have air conditioning, and some people have it in their homes, but […]

  • ThumbnailWednesday, February 23, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Here are more of the pics I took yesterday while driving around, mainly from the south to downtown and back. Today’s highlight was breakfast at Pfanntastic Pannekoek Haus , a Dutch pancake house on Crowchild Trail just south of 50th Avenue SW. You can get to it from northbound Crowchild, […]

  • ThumbnailTuesday, February 22, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada I took these pictures on an average day at the very tail end of rush hour. It was still busy (around 8:30 a.m.) but in Calgary the downtown workday starts at 8 o’clock. We were more into the school run and people like me doing their errands. The […]

ThumbnailMonday, February 21, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada No kids at school today. Family Day, an Alberta holiday originally, because we needed something to relieve us in February. I see that Ontario has got it now too. But Peggy the mail lady still had to do her rounds, because federal workers do not have Family Day. […]

Not as exhausted this week, because we took things more slowly. I don’t mean ridiculously so, just a more pleasant pace.

I’ll put in some pics I’ve taken since the beginning of the year.

  • Thumbnail Wednesday, February 16, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada That picture of the shadow of the hawthorn tree is from Sunday. ThumbnailTuesday, February 15, 2011 Home: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Pictures from the past week or so. There was more snow, though today a lot of it is gone, melted, lost.
