Chef Tummy with Thailand map

I blog about Thai food. I became fascinated with Thai food when I took a 6,002-mile motorcycle trip around Thailand to learn to cook authentic Thai food from the real experts -the Thai “Aunties” who make the best regional Thai food.  The trip took me from Trang in the South to Chiang Mai in the North and from Sangkhlaburi near the Mynamar/Burma border to Trat on the Cambodian border.

There are distinct differences in Thai food according to the region and the ethnic heritage of the people who settled there, but the hundreds of different types of food I ate all over the country were uniformly delicious. While many of the 13,000 Thai restaurants located in Western countries serve the traditional red and green curries of the Central/Bangkok region, there are lots of variations and different styles eaten in the other parts of Thailand.  I’ll share the photos and recipes I enjoyed on the trip, and relate stories from the students I teach at my Thai cooking school on the southern Thai island of Ko Pha-Ngan.
