Tonight I went to see the Avril Lavigne concert with Winnie who won box seat tickets from her work. (I wouldn’t normally go see Avril but I’ll go see her if the price is right.)
I saw Avril Lavigne one other time in concert with another pair of free tickets. That time, summer 2005, she didn’t have much of a budget or stage presence. She either stood in place or sat on a stool with no major effects.
This time, she had a small group of backup dancers and lots of flashy videos playing on the video wall. I don’t think her stage presence was too much better. She didn’t connect with her audience. It still seemed akward and scripted when she spoke with the audience, just “replace town name here” kind of thing. You couldn’t tell if she enjoyed performing because she hardly smiled. High energy songs had high energy back up dancers but she just didn’t seem to put too much energy into her moves. The only time she really seemed to shine and enjoy was during her drumming performance.
A couple of her songs she performed an acoustic version. It was pretty cool to hear a different version and I like that she sings live unlike other young artists today.
Box seating is kinda cool but not as special as I thought it would be. The best part is the private bathroom. Free tea and popcorn to start and a little minifridge with drinks inside.
well, If this is confusing and disjointed, it’s cuz I wrote this just before bed, right after the concert so I’m not really concentrating anymore. bed time.
