Muskrats and Motocross

This Sunday, I went with Adam to a race at Gloomy Creek, about 2h30m from Edmonton near Rocky Mountain House. Adam didn’t place very well because bike trouble on the first lap put him last but he managed to work his way back up from last place up a number of positions to 11th. I caught up with a couple of the girls from before, and we all asat together and helped our guys out when they came through the pits.

As we left the race heading back to town we past a browny/grey fuzzy animal crossing the highway into the grass. We pull over, get out, see if it’s still there and it is staring at us staring at it. Adam takes a few pictures of it but wants to get a whole body pic so I get out to try and scare it to run away from us. I approach slowly, crouched, inching my way forward towards it. At about 1′ away the little bugger jumps straight up into the air, bares all 4 paws with 1″ claws out towards me and startles me but surprisingly it doesn’t run away. Adam comes to the conclusion that it must be injured if it doesn’t run away. (I feel like a little kid experimenting and investigating things. You know that feeling?) Anyways, I just googled it and I think it looks like a muskrat but the tail is different. The muskrat pics have a long smooth looking tail but this guy had a bushy tail. This might be because he’s dry, most muskrat pics are of them around water so the tail might be soaking wet…

Hope the pics turn out. I forgot my digi so we used a disposable I bought.
