Fraser Island

Fraser Island is a beautiful place, we managed to see Lake MacKenzie, and the famous Maheno shipwreck and I paid for a scenic flight above the island. Although not as spectacular as I think flying over the Whitsundays would have been, it was nice to see the shipwreck from the air, the forest touching the beach and the large dunes burying the rainforest. The largest sand island in the entire world, it’s full of tropical/subtropical forest and has the purest breed of Dingo in Australia because of it’s isolation. Saw one wandering the beach on our way back from the shipwreck.

I think Sarah and I liked the Lake the best, the 97% pure silica beach was so white, and the water perfectly clear.

will post pictures later.

I was enjoying my final day in Airlie, watching Game 4 of the Stanley Cup final on the tvs in the local backpacker bar (there are tons of Canadians on the East Coast, btw) when suddenly it struck me that I had to catch my tour at 730am the next morning and my bus got in at 9am… hmm…. I got my days mixed up and missed my bus!!! I left the game in Period 2 tied 1 all to sort out what I needed to do. Ended up taking an earlier overnighter bus to make it to Hervey Bay by 5am. Sarah changed our plans so that our day tour of Fraser was the next day to allow recovery time for me.

Mike will atest that I was stressed out that afternoon. He was online and we chatted for a bit before I had a full on panic attack.
