Took a day snorkel trip to the outter barrier reef where the more beautiful coral and fish are. Had the opportunity for a beginner’s dive but it wasn’t needed to see everything. At some points the reef is only about a couple of feet away from the surface and the fish aren’t scared at all of people floating above their heads.
we were supposed to be able to see Nemos (clown fish) but I tried for over an hour to find him or his relatives by using all the knowledge I’ve gained about clown fish in the movie. Snorkelled around the endge of the reef looking for a wavy/bushy plant, nope. None of those ones around.. Swam through the trenches… Nope, none there. Got stung by jellyfish debris. Back to the boat to get some salve.
Didn’t see any jellyfish out there, but one of the employees said that chopy, windy days would probably bring by some debris and I was just lucky enough to have found a jellyfish tentacle.
Ended up not meeting Nemo but did see Stryker (I think that’s his name, the one one with the scar in the dentist’s fish tank). I hope the underwater camera took decent pictures.
I was leading the way over the reef and looking about when I felt a pain on my hand. I stopped, looked at my hand and noticed what looked like to be a thread come loose from my watch. I tried to wash it off my hand but it made it hurt way more. Realising I’d just been stung, I turned to Mike and told him I needed to get back and that’s when he started yelping in pain himself. I inadvertantly got him a prezzie from the ocean also!
Met a guy named Brian from US on the boat. He was sneaking off to do the trip. Used his wireless internet card on the boat for the first and last hour of our trip. Mike said he couldn’t understand a word Brian was saying but I didn’t think his accent was very thick… but he did pronounce MelBOURNE (as in the movies with Matt Damon, Bourne Supremecy, etc) instead of MelBRUN like I used to say it or Melbun like every Aussie says it.
