Cape Tribulation/Daintree Rainforest

Took a 2 day trip with a friend from Melbourne, (Moike!), and we stopped for some fantastic views and at a wildlife sanctuary before “trekking” into the rainforest to swim in a river. The water was about 17C!

The place we stayed in the rainforest was not that good, I felt it was very commercial and backpackery. Of course that’s what you kind of expect when you are on the east coast, but I kinda thought it would be more jungle-ish seeing as it was a tropical rainforest.

Not that I’m saying that there’s tons of buildings and concrete in the rainforest, it is a national park but the trail we walked on to the swimming hole had paved pathways and an ice cream truck at the entrance. I think that sums up that location…

The beaches in the area were pretty seculded, only frequented by the people staying at the 3 or 4 accomm around and only about 5 mins away from our dorm. The beaches and forest walks were very beautiful (though the return was always along the main road) and one of the walks we went on had the largest spiderweb off to the side of the road. I tossed a twig at the web expecting to break it up (cuz I’m evil like that) but the web held up! Noticed the spider was quite large. Not as big as the huntsman in Tasmania but definately as big as my hand.
