Went to the Pinacles on my first of 2 days off before flying out to Cairns. Woke up at the crazy hour of 6am to catch my tour bus. I went not really expecting much of the Pinnacles, how spectacular is a bunch of rocks sticking out of sand anyways? But it was pretty impressive in the end. Met another 3 Dutchies on the trip. Miriam and I got along well and decided to go to Rottnest island together the next day.
Sandboarding was next on our itinerary. This is why I booked myself on the trip. The guide first drove us through a bunch of bumpy trails to get to the sand dunes. Then, taking the 4WD up and over the edges of a lot of the big dunes searching for the best one to sandboard on. The day was freezing cold, 15C and a cold seabreeze coming off the ocean. We waxed up our specially made boards and went down about 3 times each. Fun but the walk back up leaves you a bit breathless.
