Weekend Road Trip

On Friday morning, I awoke at 630am to catch the train and bus with Andrea to Melton so we could go on the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians with Jenny (Andrea’s friend’s mom).

We slept not in tents and sleeping bags, but in swags! It’s like a sleeping bag but it is made out of waterproof canvass, has a foam mat on the inside and you fill it with blankets or duvets. They are very warm too! It was quite cool in the evenings but I was fine under the one duvet. It rain a couple of times on the first night but I just flipped up the canvass cover and it was all good. The canvass is thick enough that you can set it up like a little bubble around your head so you can still breathe without suffocating!

Great Ocean Road was fabulous, lots of beautiful views, sea breezes(gales!), and a whole bunch of bloody flies!

Grampians were very pretty as well. We took a 2.5 hour bushwalk up to the Pinnicles. It was not like any trail I’ve walked before, it was over boulders and across water, through a couple of gorges and then to the top!

The flies here are so infuriating! they are not like the ones at home where you can leave a piece of fruit out and they completely avoid you. no, these flies will buzz your face, in your ear, try to land IN YOUR EYE, UP YOUR NOSE, IN YOUR MOUTH. Grr!!
