Byron Bay

The travel to Byron Bay from Sydney was 14 hours by a combo of Train and bus. The surprising thing is that the train costs just as much as the bus and both take about 14 hours. If I had the forsight to book my trip two weeks in advance my train ticket would only have been half the price. Now I know for next time.

The lack of sleep the night before I think contributed to my motion sickness. I had 6 hours of sleep, had to get up at 6am to get ready to catch the train for 715am. I did sleep through about 3 hours of the ride which was nice but means I missed out on some really cool scenery. Here’s the one pic I took of the views.

But besides the whole motion sick thing I think travel by train is quite nice compared to Greyhound. You can get up and walk around and there is a buffet car for food. The conductors came around at 1030am selling pre-orders of Devonshire tea and then came around during lunch and dinner to pre-sell meals then as well. The train tracks are quite windy though so I didn’t feel like we were going fast at all on parts of the track and we came to full stops on others to wait for a train going the other direction to get off the track. I liked it in economy. the seats were quite spacious, more so than an economy class airline seat or greyhound seat. I would travel by train again but I will need to get way more sleep to prevent the motionsickiness.

The end of the line was called Casino. There we switched to a coach and I rode the last 2 hours on coach.

Plan for the next couple of days:
-See the sunrise at the most easterly point in Australia
-Take a surf lesson
