Buying World Cup Tickets

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Trying to find tickets to World Cup games is like trying to harvest hen’s teeth. There ain’t many to go ’round. Seems like most of them have gone into the pockets of the oh-so-generous sponsors ($47 million from Budweiser, thank you very much), which leaves John Q. Public left watching the games in the pub.

Some light at the end of the tunnel, however. World Cup Blog has tickets for sale and though they may cost a pretty penny, the temptation of a match-up of Argentina and the Netherlands in the group games makes money a non-issue.

If you’re looking for something to wear to the games, check out the World Cup Blog Store.

World Cup in Germany: Beer & Football

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

Living here in the US (Portland, OR), I’ve quickly become ingrained to watching the big US sports on TV. NFL, baseball, college football, NBA. It’s very easy to forget to check in on the Australian sports I grew up with – cricket, rugby, rugby league, aussie rules, lawn bowls (seriously!).

But even more so, I forget to check what’s going on in the soccer world – a sport I played and really enjoy watching. Which is why I’m super-excited about the upcoming World Cup in Germany next June/July. It’s going to be all footy, all the time. Australia has qualified for the first time since I was born and although they most likely won’t progress far, I’m just stoked they’re going to be there.

But I’m also still pinching myself that I am going to be there too. Some long term vision and plenty of drive from Sean has ensured that the BootBoyz will be watching the Beautiful Game from pubs, stadiums and street parties across Germany.

Naturally we’ll be writing about the event and trying to provide all the news about what’s going on over there. We’re joined by fellow football nut, Bob, who will be leading the charge to make World Cup Blog the best resource on one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
