Back home in Olinda!

All my Brazilian family!

Arrived into Recife about 7am ish and had to get another bus to Olinda and then walk up the dreaded hill to Rejane’s house all with my backpack on and in about 35 degrees, not even knowing if I could stay there yet as I hadn’t told anyone I was coming back!

It was worth it just to see Rejane’s reaction when she saw I was back, I knew instantly I had made the right decision! Sod the Rolling stones and U2, it’s not the same when youre on your own – and I’ve seen them before anyway!

Went to Alto de Se that night for some proper capoeira (not the tourist stuff like in Salvador) and suprised all the other volunteers and my Brazillian friends and basically had a fab night and was so glad to be back.

I stayed with Rejane, Juracy and their son Urundai for the 4 nights I had left before leaving for real, sharing a room with Kirsty. I wish I had done a homestay to start with, they are amazing people who love having you in their home and make you feel so welcome. If anyone is interested in going to Brazil and wants to stay with a Brazilian family to be fully immersed in the culture I can give you Rejane’s details – it is definately the best way to see the Brazilian way of life.

Even when I got food poisining (or something like that anyway) they looked after me making me all this weird tea stuff that was supposed to help until they realised that I was just throwing everything back up again so at midnight they decided to take me to the doctors – great second time at Brazillian A&E and i’ve never been once in the UK!! Had to have a drip to rehydrate me and then was fine after that apart from being nackered and feeling really bad about keeping everyone in the house up with me especially because there was another street carnival the next day and usual alto de se at night! I was so worn out from lack of sleep and food that I missed both – gutted, but made up for it on Monday and Tuesday and partied hard.

Went to Boa Viagem beach in Recife on my last day and it pissed it down with rain, so like a typical brit lay sunbathing in the rain for a while and then gave up and went to Macdonald’s to cheer myself up!

Everyone came round to Rejane’s later that night to say goodbye before I left again! It was really nice just chilling out and decorating the house with them ready for carnival and just doing general day to day stuff. The goodbye’s were as heartbreaking as ever though, I don’t think they will ever get easier! Oh well, here comes Rio & Kate!
