Chicha and Cuy
Our guide Marco took us by a place where they make and sell chicha (corn beer). The woman described how she makes chicha, fermenting and cooking corn for several days. We sampled some and strolled through her property.
In the back of her building, we found hundreds of guinea pigs living in a room with a dirt floor strewn with straw. Unfortunately these little guys are not pets but dinner. Roasted guinea pig is a local delicacy known as cuy.

I just returned from a similar trip to Peru this year – 2011 – and I saw your photo of the woman who makes the Chicha. Then I compared it to my photo of the place our Overseas Adventure Travel tour stopped for Chicha and it was the same place! (She looked the same, but the wall behind her is just the same as in your photo, so it is definitely the same place.) How funny is that?
if i were you, i would of grabbed as many piggies as i could and ran them to safety!
