November 18, 2003First hostel experience in London
Love the idea that Sean and Chris put this together and I wish I could be there in Portland to enjoy the festivities. Traveling through Australia isn't bad either, so somehow I'll survive downunder. Thought I'd share an interesting trip I had to London earlier this year. I was staying at the Generator. It's in the central part of the city which is one of the reasons I selected it. I'd also seen it in a couple articles on boots and it seemed to be listed favorably. Anyway, I was standing in line waiting to get my room when I overheard the guy in front of me telling the girl at the desk that one of the people in his room had had an "accident" the previous evening. We'll just call the guy who had the accident John, although I don't know his real name because I never met him. Apparently, John (the guy reporting the incident wasn't traveling with John) had woken up in the middle of the night after one (or 10) too many beers and decided to use the corner of the room to relieve himself. This room also had a couple French girls who weren't too happy about him answering the call of nature a couple feet away from them, so to say the least, it wasn't a pretty picture and everyone in the room was woken up by the screaming. The guy said John had checked out that morning, but the room could definitely use a cleaning. Once he left, I had to smile at the front desk attendant and she was obviously amused by the story, too. "Never a dull moment around here", she said laughing. I could see that after five minutes of being there. So, after I got my room key I headed down the hall to dump off my bags. Well, guess who happens to be in my room when I get there? My buddy who just reported the story. Even better, my new friend let me know that my bed had been occupied the previous night by bladder-challenged John. We laughed as he was walking out pointing where everything in the room was, including the "bathroom" in the corner. Needless to say, I slept on top of the covers for the duration of my stay at the Generator. Cheers to everyone and hopefully I'll see you again or meet you on the road one of these days. Below is me and my buddy Chris at his place in Melbourne.
