February 23, 2005Nutella Crepes and Pate
Paris - The Stinky City Of Love (part two) Starting with dinner on the first night which consisted of pate, some cream of īcorgetteī thing (emphasis on the cream), chicken with cream and pasta, and rice with extra butter. Not to mention breakfast at the hotel each day which consisted of bacon and sausage with extra fat (butter that bacon! now bacon that sausage!) followed by chocolate croissant for first second breakfast. And all this BEFORE Kato discovered nutella crepes.... So with all this gastronomic extravagance, I had to get them out and pounding the pavements as soon as possible. Which was made a bit difficult by the arctic conditions. While the London we left was easing into the last few winter months, Paris was still stuck somewhere slightly above freezing. But only slightly. To their credit, they didn'tīt even use the metro for the first couple of days, walking the streets of Paris, climbing the Notre Dame (where god showed his appreciation by showing us with a little snow..), the hill to Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur. However they did draw the line at climbing the Eiffel Tower, opting to take the lift for that one. They also managed to pick the coldest day to climb the Eiffel Tower, with winds reaching around 80 knots and temperatures falling as low as -7800 Fahrenheit ...... well according to Nato. At least that his excuse for staying inside up the top. There was also the obligatory trip to the Louvre to see the world famous Spectacle Of The Thousand Tourists Photographing The Mona Lisa (and some videoing it - just in case it moves). Unfortunately for Nato and I, we took the long way around so it took us about 5 hours to get to her. An American guy summed it up nicely for us to his girlfriend as she was dragging him inside - `You see the thing is, Iīm just not GOOD with museumsī. We also took a wander off to catacombs part of town. Unfortunately they happened to be closed. Until May. So after four nights of 3 star luxury it was time to decide where to go.... and the consensus seemed to be south, to warmer climates. And somewhere where K & N could understand at least a little of the language..... after all, the French donīt even have a word for entrepreneur...... Comments
