Uruguay – Rain’s Not Going Away

Friday, March 30th, 2007

I was suppose to be headed to Uruguay right about now.  I planned to get out of Buenos Aires for the day and go to Colonia, Uruguay just across the river via highspeed hydrofoil.  Just a 50 minute ride.  But I woke up to rain.  No problem, just a shower… I hoped.  Not quite.  It is pouring out and has been for hours and it is obviously not going to let up.  I have my $40 ticket, but I was walking outside and asked myself if it really makes sense to get on a boat in this weather and exactly what will I do in Colonia since I only planned to walk around the historic area.  By time I got back to my hotel room I had decided to eat the ticket and spend the day inside here rather than outside there.  I’m disappointed not to go to a new country, but I’ll do it another day.  Maybe I will be forced back to Buenos Aires again due to logistics and prices of airflights or maybe I will go when I am in southern Brazil later this year.  I don’t know and don’t care because I am dry.  And this means I get to upload glacier pictures… stay tuned for more photos…

P.S.  This is the first total rainout day for me since starting this leg of my trip five months ago!  In fact, I don’t recall a rainout day in Africa so I guess this is the first one in 8.5 months of travel.  Obviously, I was due for one.  I think I will go find a museum via taxi…
