BootsnAll Travel Network

How’d you do that?

Some of ya are asking me what I needed to make this blog, so here goes:

 1. Blog host

I decided to try Bootsnall.com for my blog host this time. Am sick of pretending I wanna be a web designer, so I wanted a pre-made template. I really liked the setup of this one. And it crashed way less (read, never) than some of the other blog hosts I use for other projects. Oh, and its still free.

2. Online photo album

www.shutterfly.com

Have used them for years. If its not broken, dont fix it. Easy to download, no limit, no cost, easy to transfer to websites. Love em!

3. www.craigslist.com

to post announcements that the blog exists, to offer travel info, and meet people from Guate before going

4. www.Skype.com

a telephony service with nice “chat” and “search by country/city” features. FREE. This wasnt a blog tool per se, but a research tool for me personally for this trip. Some of the early April 2006 research posts were derived from online talks with local Guates.

5. A load of time and a drive to share info.

6. A digital camera. Not needed absolutely definately for a blog. But if I have learned one thing from doing webwork for the past few years, its that PEOPLE DONT READ WEBTEXT! Why write words then? My lazy way of getting motivated to take notes for future use off the web. And there is always that one person that writes me now and then saying how much they dug “blah blah blah.” Thats enough to keep me motivated. Anyway, camera-wise I have a basic Canon Powershot A510 with 3.2 Mega Pixels. Takes great basic photos, but has its moments where it sucks. But thats the beauty of digital, you get to delete and take the pic again. Super easy to learn and use.

7. Computer

At home I have a super slow Toshiba Satellite something. It was on sale and more than does the job. On the road any internet cafe worked fine. I prefered the ones with USB ports and headphones, but thats just a personal preference for listening to music and downloading photos often!

8. Travel notebook

Cause no matter how available internet cafes are there will be tons of time when you dont want to be near a computer, or cant be. And some details just cant wait to be logged. Also a nice way to wind down at night; pen, small light, notebook and a soft pillow. Ahhhh.

9. A bit of insanity and an eye for odd/strange details (personal preference)

10. Readers like you!!!!

Who make me think that I am actually reaching someone who will read this stuff, or see the pics and want to experience their OWN adventure (not just wanna replicate mine).
