Elections

Music and Beauty to Woo Voters
These will be the fourth parliamentary elections since Slovenia’s independence. The parties were all expecting the chosen date and the ruling coalition and the opposition parties had already started to prepare themselves for the campaign. Most have already selected their candidates, which include a few well-known people from the political and economic sphere, as well as a number of celebrities. Others are still considering their position and have yet to publicly announce their intentions.
The leading Slovenian party, the Liberal Democrats (LDS), have declared their major new recruits, amongst others, their candidates will include musician Drago Mislej–Mef, and Krka CEO, Milos Kovacic. Their biggest rivals, the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) have also rolled their newest big guns. Their biggest hope is former Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, closely followed by journalist Miro Petek. The SDS will also try to attract votes with a former Miss Slovenia, Masa Merc and TV identity, Eva Irgl.
The New Slovenia party (NSi) will contest the autumn elections without one of their key members, Lojze Peterle, who is now a member of the European Parliament (MEP), but they see great potential in young Jernej Pavlin. Missing from amongst the candidates of the centre-left United Social Democrats (ZLSD) will be the former speaker of parliament, Borut Pahor, who is also now an MEP. The party will fight out the election with Luka Juri, musician Jernej Dirnberk and Cultural Minister Andreja Rihter amongst others.
Journalist Janko Sopar will represent the Slovenian National Party (SNS). While the Slovenian People’s Party (SLS) are yet to announce whether Franci But, a former Agriculture Minister, will be their candidate, they are counting on the support of Marjan Podobnik.

Ok, I'm not sure how an ex Miss Slovenia can contribute to politics (she's annoooooooying) but it's good for SDS they got Miro Petek. Petek is a journalist, who got beaten almost to death when he exposed fishy business in a bank in region of Koroska about 3 years ago. The creepy thing is that the person who apparently paid for the attack is a client of the company where I work. *Shiver* Petek case is now in court but since the Slovene courts are not known for the efficiency (who tries a quadruple murder case 3 times?), I'm sure the suspects will walk.
Hey, Petek for MP!
