Using a nifty Google Maps-enabled site, I found that the 2008 total solar eclipse will pass directly over Novosibirsk, Russia’s third-largest city. Rather than organizing an expedition to site where the eclipse will be at its maximum, it’s most convenient to view it from the city (it will only be ten seconds shorter).

  1. Hi, actually the total eclipse will be more than 2 minutes. You are welcome to the city. If the weather is not good enough, it’s possible to take a train to the cities of Barnaul or Biysk.
