rain

Its been raining a bit!

Medical School waterfall (c/o Mike Pullen)

I now appreciate why we can leave boats at the sailing club over the winter! On Wednesday we went down to the sailing club, but were able to get nowhere near it! We walked along the old railway bridge above the club to discover that the whole place was full of water! The boats were merrily bobbing around in the enclosure whilst as close as the slipway, the water was rushing downstream dragging everything; branches, rubbish, small trees, with it!

On the way home we decided to look at the river at the Millennium Bridge. This is where I always judge floods – by how much of the meadow is covered, and how inaccessible the bridge is, you can pretty much work out how bad the flood is and how long it’ll take to go down. I was somewhat surprised to discover that I would have only classed it a mini-flood – the river had just burst its banks, but the meadow was uncovered, the bridge totally accessible and there was virtually no current accept from in the main river! It was quite a surprise to discover quite how easily the sailing club must flood. Considering how high the water gets around the bridge in the winter, it seems quite plausible that large numbers of boats might just float right out of the 10ft high enclosure!!

Glad we’ve found somewhere to keep the boat once its bought!!

Tassy, wonderful waterfall - just be glad you only had that, and not the whole river to go with it like these guys!

yeah - Boscastle is one of my favourite places - I've been there almost every autumn i can remember. Its absolutely crazy - you never realise places can flood so close to the sea!
