Memphis…Day 2
The next morning I woke up and was set on making the 11AM Gibson Guitar factory tour. I drove downtown, parked my car at a meter, paid for an hour and rushed to the Gibson building. Fortunately there was room for me to join the tour so I paid my $10 and waited for the tour to begin.
This younger woman with a very thick Southern accent was our tour guide and after giving everyone safety goggle and our intro spiel we made our way back into the Gibson Factory. I own a Martin acoustic guitar and I’m very proud to own a Martin guitar. I never considered a Gibson just because they’re known more for their electric guitars and I was solely interested in purchasing an acoustic/electric. However, I thought it would be fun to go on the tour.
For the next hour we were lead around the factory and learned how guitars are made. It was actually kind of interesting but because we were told that if we touched anything in the factory, regardless of the stage of production the guitar was in we would have to pay the full market price of what that guitar would be worth in it’s final product. This was more than enough of a threat for me to not even think about touching a guitar. I don’t remember any one part of the tour sticking out as being more interesting or memorable than any other part, but it was a cool experience overall, and I sprinted out of the building when it was over to make sure I wasn’t ticketed for not paying the meter.
I got into my car with 3 minutes left and plugged in Graceland…
