It is the day before I leave for Jakarta, Indonesia. I have spent the last few days sorting air tickets from Bangkok to Jakarta via Kuala Lumpur for tomorrow. Then from Jakarta to Taipei via Manila one month later. I have to organise a 2 month tourist visa for Taiwan in Jakarta and then I am set for work when I finally arrive in Taiwan on the 28th August. I have been speaking to the teching agency in Taiwan via email and things look OK for September.

In Indonesia, after sorting the Taiwan visa, I aim to visit Bali for a few weeks where I can meet my mate Rene the art dealer whom I first met in Myanmar. So that’s it for the time being. I’ll write again from Bali.

Khun Pi T’ni mai? (you go where?)

Pattaya Perversions

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

The views from the top of the Sakura Tower in Yangon was great that evening. It was 5 star style luxury and a nice way to spend my last night in Myanmar after the hardships of travelling here. I arrived back to Bangkok and drank 3 chang beers when I promptly threw up! SHIT - sick again. I had a chest infection that lasted 1 week but the staff at the clinic helped me through it by procurung some more antibiotics for me. Once recovered, I headed to Pattaya 2hrs down the coast from Bangkok. I am here now and this place is totally mental. There are thousands of bars open until 0800. Loads of working girls and sex tourists. It is a truly bewildering place that I have previously resisted coming to for these very reasons. However, I reckoned I couldn’t spend all this time in this country and not see the infamous place. So here I am for a couple of days before heading to Jakarta in Indonesia for my first ever venture South of the Equator.

Last night, I went to a ’show’ which was very horny but surprisingly artistic too - this is Pattaya and everything to do with sex is here (whatever your tastes). If you like seeing geriatric fat old Western men walking down the street holding hands with stunningly beautiful young Thai girls then you should come here. You have to see it to believe it! This is just a short update as I have been sick alot recently and I want to let folk know where I am and that things are OK. The job hunting in Taiwan seems to be going OK. I am thinking of doing a stint there and then maybe some more in Thailand once I have some experience.

Khun chob som tam mai? (Thai for: you like papaya salad?)
Alina kap (what?)
Pum mai ow (No, I don’t bloody want it)
Mai bin lai (no bother)

Myanmar marvels - the land of a million stupas

This country gained independence in 1948 from????.......... yes, the English and their greedy Imperial quest. Since then it has been isolated in some degree from Western culture. Myanmar is currently dictated to by an undemocratically elected military junta. As a ... [Continue reading this entry]

Backwards Burma

In Chang Mai I went to the cinema to watch 'Oceans 13' again standing for the Thai national anthem. I took a 12hr bus to Khon Kean and then onto Kalisin in Isaan province. Here, I de-husked my first coconut ... [Continue reading this entry]
