At the moment it’s 22:15 in Bangkok on Wednesday, 20 December 2008. At the same time it’s 07:55 in San Francisco on the same day. That places me 15 hours in the past. On the one hand I could think of it as an opportunity to redeem those hours already lived for something more worthwhile. On the other hand, I can’t help but feeling like I’ll always be behind the times. How does it work? Flying to Thailand from San Francisco places me 15 hours in the future, leaving the city, my friends and service providers 15 hours the past, while flying back to San Francisco from Thailand is even more mind boggling as I left Bangkok at 12:35 on Sunday the 17th and arrived in San Francisco at 14:00 on the same day. This could easily lead one to believe in the notion of missing time seeing that the change in time zones accounted for only 1 hour and 25 minutes of a 17 hour transit!

No matter how many times I’ve crossed the international date line, I’ll never get used to it. So discombobulating an experience is it that it’s taken an entire week to get over it fully. Now that I’m back It’s going to take some time to get reacquainted with the provincial charms of San Francisco. Not too bad of a task if you ask me.
