May 25, 2005Sitting on top of Hong Kong
So right now I am literally sitting on top of the most amazing city I have ever seen. We just took the tram up to Victoria's Peak where you can see a view of the water and the mountains below. Its foggy but still amazing. I love it so much that I went to a real estate agent to ask about apartments! It really is like New York City on drugs. There is so much to see and so much to do that you feel like you could spend your whole life doing it. Just today i have been in a rainforest, a tram up to the highest point in the city, a German supermarket in teh super trendy model filled streets of SOHO and sipped a margarita in a cafe on a very European street. Ahh yes.. we stopped off of the biggest escalator in the world first.. just to see what it was like. This was all after leaving our hostel which is in teh bustling 24 hour streets of Kowloon... with smells I could never have imagined before I arrived. Pictures to follow.. hard to decribe the "interesting" and unique items that pass for food. I am not being very culturally sensitive right now but I have to say that I have never seen congeled pig blood cubes on a breakfast menu! Need I say more! Last night was amazing too. We started off at the lights show at the harbour which boosts a skyline like no other. It goes on forever and the lights dance over the water as the dragon boats float through the water. It was a sight that I will never forget. we left the posh area to go explore one of the miillion night markets filled with goodies you can only imagine.. from the knock off gucci bags to smelly teeny tiny shrimp to things I can't mention.. since i know my parents will read this :) In the middle of the market there are street perfomers and fortune tellers.. ahh the fortune teller. We spent 2 hours with him last night.. there were three of us who got our faces and palms read. I am not sure I should reveal all he said here.. ask me when I get back.. but I know when I will be married and he knew that i had stomach problems. weird!! Anywhoo.. we have met some amazing travllers while sleeping in our shoebox on the 14th floor of our HOng Kong Hostel. We have no window and the shower is no more than a hose sitting next to the toilet. We do get fresh towels and toiltries so we can't complain. That is the wonderful thing abotu this city.. you can get a flavor for anything! We will be heading over to the beach tonigth and then I think we will leave for Beijing tommorow night. Our time in HOng Kong might be extended.. as it is truly amazing. I am running out of time but will write more later. thanks for reading this far! Comments
C'mon, you have to try the congealed pig cubes for breakfast. Actually I have head pig's feet is to die for...i probably will die before I try it myself. Sounds like you're having a great time. Post the pictures, post the pictures!! Posted by: Gar on May 26, 2005 12:14 AMMissy, keep your clothes on. It sounds absolutely fantastic. Jr and I almost have the boat ready which is a real accomplishment considering it has been lousy weather. Today it is 48 and the wind chill is in the 30's. I will write more tonight but now I must get downstairs.
