The quiet week has meant for an opportunity for me to check out the Jazz Festival that’s running in town.

What I love about Vancouver life are the plethora of cultural and musical options available to us here about this time of year. They’re not cheap by all means, but one can find free and inexpensive things to do here.

Another night passes, and I cannot dream.

Saying that almost seems to imply that one can willfully dream. This is not the case.

Even in that partial state of sleep, I can sense my surroundings. What I had sensed this morning met my eyes with her own, peering through the darkness.

The dog.

She had hopped the equivalent of a one storey building to get onto my bed, and burrowed herself beneath the numerous pillows to my left.

She observed me, looking with such a baleful expression that I could not go back to sleep.
