Barcelona, such a beautiful horizon

Barcelona!!! What am amazing place. This place is just a manifestation of creativity.

The place thrives on an artistic flare which can be seen in the architecture and found in the way of life many people live in Barcelona. I had been there several years back for a day trip while on holiday in Calella de la Costa, a resort town about an hour north of Barca. This time I was about to spend 4 days in the magnificent and attempt to experience as much of the Catalan city as humanly possible before cramps and the sort set in.
We decided to go at the end of February. It cuts the UK winter up for a few days and Spain is beginning to thaw out around that time. In theory at least.

Right, we need tickets to Barca and a hostel. Cheap is always number one on the agenda, I don’t like to be cheap on that issue!! I’m fairly comfortable with roughing it a little, taking a few knocks for the sake of a few pennies. Basically Easy jet has sold out and prices starting at £100 Stansted to Barcelona return were not great. We had seen some package breaks on Expedia and lastmnute.com. They started at about £160 for 3 nights including flight but staying in a hotel a good days walk from central Barcelona, if you know what I mean! So we decided to go with the independent route, and arranging stuff ourselves instead of pouring hard earned pounds into the fat cats pockets of internet travel sites.
Ok, first I did check out the B’n’A hostels guide, that gave a great insight into what simple accommodation we could find. Also my travel buddy Gareth (Aka Rogering roger), found out that Ryan air does a flight to none other than little old Reus (I don’t assume you all know where that is, because I didn’t ). Anyway for reasonably unsocial hours and an airport located an hour from Barca we could pay only £28 for a return flight. That sort of offer you try to work around, to tie it down. Luckily I live 30 minutes from Stansted Airport so a 6.10am departure was quite feasible without breaking the bank on a taxi to the airport.
