February 22, 2005Pics from Mexico part 2
Hola amigos! (michal) Here are some of the pics from our trip! But before we arrived to this beautiful city we went for an amazing trip to see the ancient Aztec city of Teotihuacan, the place is only 50 km from Mexico City and is simply breathtaking, built at the beggining of our era it was initially 20km long and bigger than any other exisiting city at that time. Two landmarks that we not only saw but even climbed are the Pyramid of the Sun (third in the world) and Pyramid of the Moon. Here are some pictures from these amazing sites: Pyramid of the Sun: View image View from the Pyramid of the Moon, showing the Blvd of the Dead: View image Silvy on the Pyramid of the Moon: View image Me in front of Pyramides: View image and here too: View image And now we are in Merida city! We were hesitating if it is better to go to Merida or to Cancun, well in the end we decided to go to Merida since Cancun seemed to be a very touristy place and we are looking for some more genuine experience. We were lucky enough to find a place in a quite cheap but good and safe hotel: Trinidad Galeria. This is a very impressive place, owned by an Mexican artist, the place is full of sculptures, paintings, plants, mirrors and many other amazing, impressive and sometimes scary and strange things! View image Then of course we wanted to explore the city - the first impression: very hot and crowded with masses of locals and tourists! Here is a picture of the main landmark of the Merida´s centre: Catedral de San Ildefonso: View image At the same time we realised that we were happy enough to be right on time for Sunday´s Merida show! All of the streets are closed for cars on the weekends and on the main market was a huge colorful spectacle: Maya wedding, with plenty of young Maya guys and girls dancing their regional dances, here are a few pics of these: View image and one more: View image This is IT! Hasta luego and next pics coming soon! pa pa, chao ! Comments
Quieridos amigos! I think I can speak for us all when I say that we are living vicariously through you both now that you are in Mexico Lindo! My last two weeks in Tbilisi seem like a big yaaaaaaawn now in comparison! If you are still interested in Acapulco, let me know your dates. It might be that the flat is free after all. Brussels is cold and rainy and everyone is in a bad mood, even more than normal. Count your blessings, don't talk to strangers, be careful and come back safe!
