Mexico City - First impressions by Silvena

(Silvena posting) Michal must have already given everyone all the details about our stay in LA (as he was in charge of the LA entries), he must have told you about how much he loves the US now (for all the people who did not know him so well, he was a staunch anti-US guy), but a few days at the amazing California climate and the glimse of the world of celebrities made him fall in love with the country. Currently he is constantly daydreaming about becoming a celebrity and how crowds of people will follow him and scream his name, etc... :)
We spent a week being pampered in any possible way by Michal's uncle and aunt (Henrik and Jeanina, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING OUR STAY SUCH A SPLENDID EXPERIENCE!), we were driven to see all the most amazing beaches and all the unworldly rich homes on hills overlooking the ocean... so, as you can see, it is not hard to start daydreaming of becoming one of the STARS :)

As for me, I can see why people like California but i don really feel it. It is a beautiful place and i would love to have its climate (or at least a touch of it) in good old rainy Brussels, but celebrity life is something i am happy to just hear about on TV.

Mexico City. Looking through the small window of the plane before landing made me shiver. It is HUMONGOUS! On each side of the plane to the very horizon, we could see houses and houses and more houses. After all the books we read which prepared us to hold on to our luggage and beware of people snatching our bags, i am sure we were quite a funny site. We were painfully trying to look as if we know where we are going and as if we spend every other day here and are very very local, but i am sure our faces just read Oh my god. We are very proud of ourselves because we took the metro from the airport (instead of being ripped off by some fake taxi man). Our friend Bohdana was telling us before we left that people will be touching us in thr metro because they just don愒 see Europeans too often but noone touched us, they were just staring :) which was not hard because Michal and i I were taller than most so we provided an easy view. We managed a short walk around the famous Zocalo by now (main square witha humongous cathedral at one side and a gigantic Mexican flag in the middle of the square) and we are heading back to the hotel. I have a feeling Mexico City is not my piece of cake either...it has this big city feeling (and quite smelly too) but of course this is only my very first impression.

wow! at last some news ;) last weekend I met Piotr and we were wondering how are you doing :)

I realize that you have better things to do than writing this blog (btw, it's really great idea), but it would be great if you could put some photos online :D

I've to add this side to my bookmarks and check it every day :]
