March 07, 2006We Speak the Same Language
World Traveler.... As I wonder through this world for eleven months there is one thing that has changed. It happened slowly, barely undetected, looking back on it. It might have happened in Latvia when a flower couple made me smile. It might have happened in Turkey as I sat with three women from different generations. It might have happened in Morroco as I ate, slept and rejoiced with a kind family. It might have happened in India with a kind man that welcomed me with big eyes and the gesture of welcome. I am not sure where it happened nor am I sure when it happened..but it is clear that somewhere, with no percise moment, it happened. Communications does not require a language. It does even require vocabulary, communications is within. In this vast world of mass communications that occurs in written form, spoken language and text messaging we've forgotten that true commuications has no language barriers. I have sat for hours having conversations in every continent with people that do not know one word of my vocabulary. I have made grown women cry from laughter. I have waited with patience till a young boy accepted a piece of a tangerine and then laughed as he followed me around for an hour. I have held the hands of the young and old, touched their faces, laughed with them, felt the pain in their joints. I have understood, everything they've said and I have felt both their happiness and sadness without a single understood word being spoken. Communications is not what we say, but what we feel. We can all understand each other if we give one another time, consideration and remember that in reality, we are all the same. We all speak the same language and it ends and begins with the concept of love. Comments
