What would happen....

Orissa India, December 12-21, 2005

What would happen if we removed all technology from our lives? There would be no cell phone, no television, no radio, no computers, no palm pilots.... there would be stillness in our lives.

What would happen if we took away all our means of transportation? No car, metro, motorcycle....there would be two feet to lead us in our path.

What would happen if there was no media? No television news, no radio broadcast, no newspaper....we would not be aware of all the terrors of this world....we would gain a sense of innocense.

What would happen if our children had no toys...no toys at all? There would be laughter of running feet to and fro.

What would happen if our world never learned how to steal or kill? It would be a safer world where doors are left unlocked and kindess is gently bestowed without thought.

What would happen if we didn't have a professional job? No demanded responsibilities for the better of others rather than self.....we would survive.

What would happen if we eliminated the stress of responsibilities in our life? We could live in serenity, in peace.

What would happen if we lost all our grocery conveniences? No Safeway, no deli around the corner for lunch, no 5 star restaurants to visit.....we would be gardeners.

What would happen if beauty was not identified by the thinness of our waist, the symmetry of our face or the color of our hair? We would all be beautiful.

What would happen if our means of economy was no longer of monetary value? We would learn to trade, to barter what we have.

What would happen if our mate was not selected by coy flirtation? We would learn how to sew for fabric stitching was a means to select your mate.

What would happen if we the world was turned upside down? Can such a world exist?

Yes......and it does. It's not a strange world, it is not a world that one cannot identify with. It's a world where self fullfillment is measured by a hard days work, by how many eggs were laid or how much rice was cultivated. It is not an easy world but is not a world filled with stress. It's a serene world with shy innocense, with untampered traquility. It is a world where beauty is skin deep and pure. It is the world of a tribe.

It is the world where your knowledge and wisdom is not measured by the number of degrees on your wall but the number of years you've walked the earth.

For an instant it would appear that I entered a time capsule and stepped back to a simplier world....but it is today and the pureness is overwhelming, it is beautiful.

It will only take generations and the stillness, tranquility and beauty of tribes will be long forgotten. Overtaken by the new world of development, westernization and sense of fullfillment. It saddens me to think that the innocense will disappear without a trace or sense of loss. A heritage that took centuries to build, maintain, culture will only take years to eliminate. It will be worldwide for these tribes can be found everywhere, India, Africa, America, South America, Asia...they can be found and they will be lost.

What would happen...to the world if this occurs? It will be a sad day, filled with loss...filled with tears.
