Lions, Tigers and Bears....OH MY!

Written Journal: October 7th Masaii Mara National Park - Kenya

DSCN0260.JPG

Well maybe no Tigers or bears but there is everything else imaginable in the "Free" Zoo and I amongst many of other human outsiders cannot help but be amazed by the pureness, beauty, freedom and tranquility of the wild.

Unfortunately many of the animals have grown accustomed to the human invadors....they roam without fear of the slew of jeeps that seek their company. Breakfast and dinner with a male lion or family is just a hands reach from my view, the giraffs linger in the tall bushes just above my head, the elephants walk amongst the tents in the morning, the leopard walks without hurry or annoyance amongst the carivan of jeeps that surrounded him. There world has been somewhat shattered by human invasion but in many ways it has been kept the same.

The Masaii Mara park is vast, with hills tumbling as far as the eye can see, a stream of green nature is the sign of water and the now dryness of summer conceals the animals most seaked..the lions, leapards and chitas. When the jeep engine is turned off, the stillness of nature surrounds you and is only disrupted by the sound of birds chirping, cameras clicking and the breeze.

I who have never been fond of the "jails" we call zoos or the "unfair and cruel entertaiment" found in a circus have found the freedom of the African Wild exhilerating. There is no fence, no one throwing them a meal, no shelter from the rain, it is animals as they are intended to be...roamers, fighters and hunters.

I feel priveledged to have been a visitor in their home, their sunset, their dinner table but I am happy to leave them be wild and free.
