October 20, 2005One of Us....
Travel Blog from September 30th, Accra-Ghana One of us is "NOT" like the others! I have truly hit the real Africa and I stand out like sugar on chocolate. As I walk, everyone turns their head with a quizical look and I smile..... Many women carry a large tin bowl on their head that is filled with everything from plastic goods to fruit, to detergent....all for sale. On Sunday's, most women are dressed in a long two piece gown, made out of a bright African print. The elegant gown, sophistically displays their femine round physique and I stare in awe....what I would do to have a butt like that! I cannot help but be reminded that the western definition of beauty is tall and thin. What are we thinking? These women are absolutely beautiful, sexy, feminine and proud. As I stand in my cargo pants and t-shirt a hint of embarrassement covers my face as they look at me quizically and within seconds a women with a tin bowl on her head (filled with water bags) passes by and I cannot help but think...you look funny too! Enjoy the moment!! Comments
