September 26, 2005Leather Working Hands...
I was priveleged enough to hear the giggles out of a kind leather working man in Fez. His gentle tones were a contrast to the hardened finger tips covered with leather thimbles, strong hardened arms and calloused palms. As he passed two threads thru 4 pieces of leather simultaneously, without any type of pre-established hole, he smiled and invited me to try. As I sat, I noticed that he had a leather strap tied to his leg in order to create tension and strength. The years of this man were evident not only in his wise eyes but his craft expertise. As I struggled, he giggled and for a short time...I hope to have made his day. I know his kind gestures, soft voice and shy giggles made mine.
