Sad but True Story, Berlin

Berlin, what a beautiful city and what a sad story. I've been educated in Berlin and as I walk around some of the main squares filled with gold leaved spirals, gardens and landish beautiful decoration...I enter a history of sadness.

In my few days here I've visited the Jewish Museum, Brandenburger Tor, Checkpointe Charlie, the remenants left of the Berlin Wall and the Topography of Terror. Ignorantly, I had little knowledge of the relevance of all these landmarks. Each holding a different story of history, each holding a sadness in humanity and all with a history that was not so long ago.

Through the city there are beautiful buildings of a time when Germany was strong and powerful, of when people were proud and now you see little of that era. It's clear by the lack of laughter, the absence of German flags flying and the reserveness of the people. In some ways still divided by their past and their lack of confidence to be proud of their country. I've learned that this behavior is taught as a young age in school and that the guilt of history is instilled for a past they weren't present in.

East vs.West
Genocide of a nation
Russian, American, German, British, French Sectors
Russia vs. Germany

May we all learn the history, to not forget and may the Germans see
a future filled with less sadness, more strength and no war to humanity. May they see the beauty of their city, Berlin.
