June 02, 2005Bonn-War Capital & Beethoven
Bonn was the capital of Germany during the War. I came to visit Bonn to see if I could locate the Ecuadorian Embassy during the War as my Great Grandfather was the consulate during that time and he gave many Jewish Germans Visas for entry into Ecuador. Unfortunately I couldn't locate the embassy as it's been long gone. It's not hard to see why Bonn became the temporary capital as it's very beautiful with it's claim to fame being Beethoven. His name lines streets, parks, cafes and plazas everywhere. It's a lovely town and still has the prestige of a capital with it's low crime rate, clean streets and upscale residents. It was surprising to hear that there is a large Ecuadorian immigration population in Bonn, it might be cute but it is cold for our southern blood. Regardless, on my morning of departure I woke up early to the sun and decided to take a stroll before departing. Close to the train station, I found myself in front of Beethoven's statue and I decided to be "in" the moment. Since it was early there were only a few pigeons and elderly roaming the plaza, I found peace in a bench located in the corner and I sat in front of Beethoven, took out my IPOD and blased Yanni. The next best thing... Dad, is this an equal trade? Hope so it was Yanni, Queen, Janet Jackson or Shawn Colvin. I thought Yanni was the close enough. It was a good day!!! Comments
Yeah to Yanni.... he's a great travel companion - and so low maintenance! Posted by: Monica on June 6, 2005 11:20 AMPost a comment
