The Pre Journey before The BIG Journey

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

After resigning my position in Alberta, I had little desire to stay in the Province.  My RTW trip is meerly 3 months away and the thought of staying here until then was unbearable.  I want to go, I want to start this trip, and I don’t want to wait!  So when a possible chance to work in Niagara Falls, Ontario for 3 months came up, I decided to grab it.Growing up in Ontario, I made several trips to the Falls.  It’s changed alot over the years (the city), but the Falls are still splended! Although this new job is nothing glorious or brag worthy, I can see working at the HI Niagara hostel will be fun.  I can enjoy a city I’ve enjoyed for years, meet other travellers, see old friends (and their children lol), and earn a little extra cash before my RTW Trip. So, as of Tuesday, July 15th I will no longer be a resident of Alberta; I’ll be flying to Toronto, and taking the train to Niagara Falls.  In a way, it’s as if my RTW Trip will be starting in 4 days, not 90.

Holly’s Hostel- A Review

Friday, April 11th, 2008

I have no clue how a hostel in the Tibetan Quarter of Chengdu can cook such fantastic western and chinese food, but they do! This woman is amazing. Her fries are to die for, not to mention the massive banana pancake (done in a french crepe style) with chocolate sauce that I had for breakfast this morning. I’ve eaten more in this hostel, then anywhere else! lol.

Holly’s Cafe is not only popular with guests of the hostel, but with guests from other hostels and hotels as well. In the warmer months I imagine this place is packed with people both inside and out on the roof terrace.

Although I’m the only non-Asian staying here, I feel right at home here. My room is clean (It should be, they wash all the linens by hand on the roof), has a spacious bathroom complete with Western style toilet, TV (doesn’t work though haha) and an air conditioner if I had asked for one. Holly’s also offers free internet to guests and a laundry service, to which my cloths have never looked so clean!

The staff are very friendly and the girls at the desk speak very good english. They’re able to book flights, tours etc, which is great!

Next time I come to Chengdu, I’ll be staying here at Holly’s!
