Thailand

April the 5th (Tuesday) we left Bottle Beach by Long tail boat got a taxi to the pier. Then a ferry to Surat tani. On getting on the ferry we decided to pay 40 bahts about 80 cent extra each to sit in the VIP cabin which has Air conditioning and plays movies-in English as the ferry would last five hours and we still would have more traveling to do after that .

We arrived in Surat tani at 4:30 and our bus left at 6:30 and took two hours. We arrived in krabi and sorted our accommodation from the bus station which included a free pick up K’s guest house .It was clean the staff were really friendly and always more than willing to help with any questions and they do a great laundry service. Then we made our way down to the pier where there was a small night market and street vendors selling food with plastic tables and chairs on the pier. We had our dinner here it was really nice and one of the cheapest we had so far. We stopped in O’Malley’s Irish bar for a drink on the way back to the hotel.

April the 6th (Wednesday) we had breakfast in the hotel and made our way to Wat Tham Sur about 5 km away. this is a very famous old temple it had many Buddha statues in various locations the best one is on top of a steep stairway with 1237 (very steep steps) up the face of a cliff that brings you to a platform on top of the cliff about 600mtrs high. On top of the platform there is a huge Buddha statue and panoramic views of the town and surrounding area and on a really clear day you are suppose to be able to see the sea. It’s not for the faint hearted thought on some of the steps I had to turn my foot side ways to fit it on the step it was so narrow and I’m only and size 5 shoe and some of the steps were really steep add to that about 35 degrees heat and 1237 steps. It was tough but we made it my thighs were in agony for about two days after though but rob was fine – well if he wasn’t he wasn’t admitting it anyway. Later that night we went to another night market in a different part of town this market was bigger but mainly sold food. We had dinner here again and it was even nicer than the previous night.

April the 7th Thursday we hired a moped today and headed north to Ao Nang beach and fossil beach. We were heading south when we got a puncture and we were in the middle of nowhere luckily a local stopped in a pick up truck and put us and the bike in the truck and drove us to the nearest garage. It only took half an hour to fix then we got back on the road and continued south into the country and enjoyed the scenery. We then headed back to Karbi for a late lunch and chilled out for a while in a park by the pier.

That night we went to a lovely restaurant for dinner it was in the basement and you had to hop across a huge pond with fish in it in the middle of the floor. The was a waterfall effect in the corner of the pond and all the tables and chairs were made of tree trunks and branches it was very unusual and more importantly the food was fantastic.
