Thailand

3rd April: Today we got the ferry to Ko Phangan it took about 1 ½ hrs to get there, we hadn’t booked any accommodation so we jumped on a taxi to Aow Chaloklum bay and got a Long Boat to Haad Khuat(Bottle Beach). This bay can only be reached by boat. These long boats are all over Thailand they are about 25ft long and double ended and made of timber, to propel them along they have a diesel engine mounted at the stern of the boat above the gunnels, which is mounted on a hingened, swiveling bracket and has an 8ft shaft that angles down to the water. The engines are about 15/20HP and started with a crank handle, you can see some of these boats traveling at mad speeds and you can definitely hear them!
Anyway back to the beach, bottle beach is great, you get a real feel of isolation here. The beach is lovely and sandy and the water has plenty of depth, there are about 4 bungalow operators here. We stayed in Bottle Beach Resort, our timber hut was raised up on timber legs to a height of 8ft and was really quaint. The restaurant had a real tropical feel to it.

4th April: We went to rent a Kayak today but the guy didn’t have any life jackets so we gave it a miss, we will do it another time. The snorkeling is not great here due to murky water. We bought a hammock and put it up on the decking out front of our hut, Hammock, book, sun and coconut cocktails what a life! Tomorrow we leaving Phangan and heading back to the main-land and then on the Krabi.
