Thailand

28th March: Today we headed further south to Chumphon this is the nearest port to get out to Ko Toa, Ko Phangan and Ko Sumai islands. We traveled there by government bus and arrived at 4.30pm. We were getting the midnight ferry out to Ko Toa as it was half the price of any of the others, this is because it is more of a cargo boat then a passenger boat and takes at least twice as long! It took 6 1/2hrs to get too the island so we arrived at 6.30am. We had already booked our accommodation in Tanote bay with Tanote bay resort, they had agreed to pick us up at the pier, and you needed a 4X4 to reach the bay. Tanote bay is a quite bay with 4 bungalow resorts there and 2 dive shops, our bungalow was built into the hill-side and the front was held up with timber pylons, it consisted of a bedroom and a bathroom with a small balcony out the front looking over the bay, what more could you want?. The bay here is sandy in parts but mainly granite rocks, but the snorkeling is excellent, out in the middle of the bay are small rock islands to explore, the fish to see here where of all sizes and colors !. It was a quite month here so there were not too many other tourists here, which is great as you feel very Robinson and Crusoe!

We had a pet who came with our bungalow, he was 10 inch spotted Gecko we christened Oscar II! We stayed here for 3 days soaking up the sun, snorkeling and just chilling out, the bungalow owners were very friendly and the restaurant was good.

1st April: We left Tanote today and went into the main town Mae Haad to catch up on emails and exchange our books. We got a Taxi to Chalok bay, this would be a bigger bay then Tanote with lots of sand but the water is not very deep here. We booked into Tropicana resort, again it consisted of a bedroom and a bathroom, all of the accommodation we have stayed in has so for cost us no more then 4-6 euros there are costlier rooms if you want but were we have stayed so far they have been clean and in nice settings.
When we checked in we booked a snorkeling trip around the island and also our ferry ticket’s to Ko Phangan. That evening we went for a stroll on the beach and found a lovely restaurant that is built out over the water that has a timber pier out to it, we ate here and relaxed or the rest of the evening!

2nd April: Today we were going on the snorkeling trip around the island, we were collected by taxi and got on a boat at Mae Haad pier with about 30 other people.
Our first stop was Shark Island to see some reef sharks but it was not to be. We tried again it another spot were a few people spotted small sharks! From here we went to Leuk bay were the snorkeling is OK. After this we went to Hin Wong bay to snorkel and have lunch, there were some nice coral gardens here but visibility was not so good. Last but not least we went to Nang Yang Island, this place would take your breath away with its beaches, surroundings and crystal clear waters. We arrived back on the pier at 4.30pm. We found a lovely buffet barbeque and had dinner here and watched a movie. We were leaving tomorrow to go to Ko Phangan.
